Finetune - create your own streaming internet radio station

Finetune, an online music service that enables you to create and share personalized Internet radio stations has a Wii friendly version of the website.  If you point your Wii Opera Browser to http://finetune.com/wii/ you’ll be listening to streaming internet music in no time.

Although this service was pretty cool, the streaming quality was average, as to be expected.  What we’re aiming for here at Wii Media Center is a high(ish) quality solution to streaming media from another computer in the house, to the Nintendo Wii and into your TV, and we won’t rest until we’ve found the best  a solution.

Stream Media to your Wii with Orb

Orb is a web based streaming media services which gives you the ability to stream video, audio and pictures from your Windows PC via the internet to the Nintendo Wii through the Opera web browser on the Wii.  Depending on the speed of your internet connection it can be a little slow and choppy and the video and sound quality is a bit average.

From the Orb website, here are the steps you need to take to stream media from you PC to the Wii:

  1. Download the Opera Internet browser available at www.wii.nintendo.com onto your Wii.
  2. Download Orb at www.orb.com onto your Windows PC at home.
  3. Turn on your TV and access the Wii menu. Select the Internet Channel when connected to the Internet and open the browser.
  4. Using your Wii remote, log onto your Orb account through Wii at mycast.orb.com.

That’s it. If you try this at home, please post your comments here so others can learn from your experiences.

StumbleVideo

Another bookmark for your Wii browser is StumbleVideo.  This is another Wii friendly video site StumbleUpon style.  Make sure you check out the channels feature.

YouTube searching and viewing on the Nintendo Wii

Viewii is a pretty cool Wii optimized site for watching YouTube Videos through the Wii’s Opera browser.  This is one to definitely bookmark your Wii browser.  Check out Viewii.
